| Details & Description |
The Bay Area Runners (BARs) are a diverse group of men and women from all walks of life who’ve gotten together for the purposes of fun, fitness, fellowship and public service. There are doctors, teachers, lawyers, nurses, customs agents, business owners, construction workers, retirees, you name it, who are members of the BAR. Members are primarily from the metro Mobile Bay area of Mobile and Baldwin counties in Alabama. While their primary reason for forming the running club was to conduct the Joe Cain Classic Run on Joe Cain Day during the Mardi Gras season in Mobile, all year round they train for races all over the country and the world. They meet once a week in Mobile and twice a week on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay to run together and catch up on the comings and goings in each other’s lives, and to run or walk. Afterward, they descend upon a local restaurant to eat and socialize. Occasionally, some members train for a marathon. If enough members commit to training, then the weekend long training runs become social events in their own rite, usually turning into potluck parties after the run. |
