Wallace Wade was born on June 15, 1892, in Trenton, Tennessee. He began his coaching career at Fitzgerald Clark Prep School in Tullahoma, Tennessee, and in 1921 went to Vanderbilt. Two years later he came to the University of Alabama staying for eight years and enjoying great successes-4 Southern Conference champions, three national champions, 3 Rose Bowl trophies, 61 wins, 13 losses and 3 ties. Coach Wade played a big part in bringing national attention to the power of southern football. In 1931 he went to Duke University for 16 seasons, broken up by 4 years of World War II. In 1950 he became Southern Conference commissioner. He is enshrined in the National Football Hall of Fame and Helms Hall of Fame. Coach Wade passed away September 23, 1986.
