Itinerary at a Glance
Day 1: Arrive to this mountain-top getaway for a relaxing evening. You might want to plan a quiet night at the cabin by picking up dinner at a local restaurant and dine from your private balcony overlooking the world. Or venture out to any number of restaurants offering steaks and seafood, BBQ, fried catfish, or other delicious choices. Relax in an inviting hot tub on the deck of your cabin and watch as the view below transforms from daylight to flickering lights as the sun sets over Sand Mountain.
Day 2: Rise to the sound of birds chirping and brew a fresh pot of coffee. Head out for the day to enjoy a few hours cruising down the Little River. (Be sure to have made previous arrangements with the outfitter so he is prepared and ready for your arrival!) Pick up some breakfast or snacks to take with you on the boat ride. This is an adventure you won't want to miss. A cruise on the Little River is ideal year-round. Spring brings a beautiful bouquet of flowering plants. The Banks of Little River are draped in bright pink rhododendron, wild azaleas and mountain laurel. Summer brings a lush green forested feel to the river and the vibrant hues of Autumn make the river radiant with color. After a ride down the river, you may want to return to Mentone to browse the antiques and craft shops. Dinner at Windwood Farms will be just the thing to round out a perfect day in the mountains.
Day 3: Don't be in too big of a hurry to leave town. Map out a route towards home that will have you taking in more of the region. Perhaps a tour of nearby Sequoyah Caverns, a scenic drive down the Lookout Mountain Parkway or U.S. Highway 11, or a visit to the Alabama Fan Club & Museum in Fort Payne.
