Talmadge Butler
Lake Guntersville State Park Lodge, Guntersville
Reared on a farm in Marshall County, Talmadge Butler, at the age of 12, fished the waters of Lake Guntersville and camped in the park more than 50 years ago. While he still loves the outdoors and enjoys fishing and camping whenever he gets a chance, he returned to his old stomping grounds in 2003 with a different agenda. He became superintendent of Lake Guntersville State Park and has since added the title of district manager. Butler's professional outdoor career stems back to 1974, when he began work as a conservation officer at Oak Mountain State Park in Shelby County. Over the years, as assistant superintendent at Oak Mountain, superintendent at DeSoto State Park in DeKalb County and superintendent and district manager at Lake Guntersville, he has become an avid supporter of the preservation and cleanup of state parks in north Alabama. In 2002, Butler was inducted into the Alabama Tourism Hall of Fame.
