Loretta Lynne Weninegar
Botanist, Instructor, Trainer and Wildlife Expert, Huntsville
Loretta Lynne Weninegar is a botanist, instructor and leading expert in the areas of freshwater biology, wetland botany, and the wildlife species of Alabama and the Southeastern United States. When she is not teaching environmental issues, she can be seen leading nature hikes and giving interpretive talks for The Land Trust of Huntsville North Alabama, and other organizations. She loves nature and enjoys introducing children and adults to the outdoor wonders of North Alabama. Her subjects of expertise include the waters of Cane Creek in Calhoun County, the vascular flora of Choccolocco Creek in Calhoun, Cleburne and Talladega counties, Little River Canyon and the wildflowers of Alabama wetlands, to name a few. She regularly monitors a wide variety of habitats particularly as they relate to Alabama rivers, creeks, ponds and lakes. Through "Alabama Science in Motion," she educates teachers, who in turn help mold North Alabama young people's understanding and concern for nature.
