Lonnie Carden
Southern Trails, Inc., Montgomery and Auburn and Coosa Outdoor Center, LLC, Wetumpka
Lonnie Carden's passion for the outdoors is the result of many years spent scouting as a youth. As proprietor of Southern Trails (Montgomery/Auburn), and Coosa Outdoor Center (Wetumpka), he enjoys working with Scouts, students, and civic and church groups in planning their outdoor adventures. Since 1976, Carden has been dedicated to the preservation of the last white water on the Coosa River in Elmore County. His efforts to secure attractive, dependable, recreational releases on the Coosa between Jordan Dam and Wetumpka resulted in his being named 1992 Alabama Wildlife Federation's "Water Conservationist of the Year." AWA called him "a driving force in bringing awareness of the recreational value of the Coosa River to canoeists, kayakers and other boaters in addition to the outstanding fisheries supported by the increased river flows." The Coosa's increased flow has returned it to its natural habitat, making it an excellent site for viewing moss-draped cypress and birds such as osprey, eagles and herons.
