Dr. John J. Dindo

Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Mobile
Dr. John J. Dindo, assistant director of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, has been greatly involved in Alabama's outdoor industry for more than 30 years as an educator, scientist and sportsman. An ornithology specialist, Dr. Dindo was one of the prime resources in the creation of the Costal Birding Trail. He also created and continues to manage an award-winning K through 2 program at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, named Discovery Hall. The program introduces more than 12,000 students and teachers annually to the principles of marine science and conservation. The Estuarium, the Sea Lab's public aquarium, is also his brainchild. As an outdoorsman, Dr. Dindo is an avid hunter and fisherman, frequenting the delights of the Delta and the waters of the Gulf as often as he can. He takes great pleasure in interacting with the public on his famous tours of the Gulf of Mexico and the Mobile Delta.
