Chris Carter
Coosa River Adventures, Wetumpka
Chris Carter, a former U.S. Air Force computer programmer, was reared in Milton, FL, the state's "Canoe Capital." In 1990, while stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL, he took up residence in nearby Wetumpka. He immediately fell in love with the area after viewing the beautiful rapids of the Coosa River. In 1995, he started Coosa River Adventures, a canoe and kayak livery service. After a 20-year military career, Carter retired to run his business full time. Coosa River Adventures offers canoe or sit-on-top kayaks and provide transportation to the Coosa launch site, where outdoor lovers can enjoy the cliff walls, rock islands and whitewater rapids. A 43-mile trip on the Tallapoosa River is also available. Carter has been actively involved in the Coosa River Paddling Club, the Cherokee Alpine Ridge Trail Association, the Trail of Legends Association and the planning of the annual Coosa River Challenge.
