Mamaw's Chocolate Pound Cake

Ingredients:

Pound Cake

  • 3 cups flour
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 1/4 cups sweet milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 or 1/4 teaspoon salt

 

Frosting for Chocolate Pound Cake

1 cup shortening

2 cups sugar

1/4 cup cocoa

2/3 cup sweet milk

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons vanilla

 

Directions:

Pound Cake

Cream butter and shortening with sugar. Add eggs one at a time and beat well after each. Sift all dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Add vanilla and cook in a well greased/floured tube pan at 325 degrees for one hour and 25 minutes.

 

 

Frosting for Chocolate Pound Cake

Cook for two minutes after it comes to a boiling point, stirring constantly. If too thick, add 1 tablespoon cream.

 

Note: This is one heck of a great icing. Use it on any cake and you'll be royalty for the day with your family.
