Biscuit Mix

Recipe Type: Dessert and Breads

Ingredients:
  • 8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 8 teaspoons sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup shortening (solid)
Directions:

Mix all the dry ingredients together. To make the biscuits: Cut in the shortening, using a pastry blender, or the old-fashioned way using two table knives. It should look like coarse meal. All you need to do is store it in a tight-sealing container in the refrigerator. It can be stored in a cupboard, but will not last as long, depending on the ''climate'' conditions of your cupboard or pantry. When you want to make biscuits, preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Then simply mix 1 cup of the mix with 1/3 cup of milk. Shape the biscuits as you would from a store-bought biscuit mix and bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
