In addition to its many state titles, Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q has amassed seven World Barbecue Championships in the categories of chicken, pork and ribs. Don McLemore, husband and father of three, is the owner and president of Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q. The restaurant, which has been recognized by The Wall Street Journal as having the best barbeque in the country and named the "Best Barbecue Restaurant in Alabama" by the Birmingham News, has grown to become one of the most prestigious barbeque establishments in the world. Don greets guests from all over the globe daily as they come to dine in this Decatur landmark. His grandfather, Robert "Big Bob" Gibson, started the restaurant in 1925. In 1974 Don and his wife Carolyn took control of the business and continued the family traditions. For the past several years McLemore has been busy developing an award-winning line of barbeque sauces, featuring exciting flavors that have netted first-place awards in every major commercial sauce contest in the country, including in 2004, the National Barbecue Association Award of Excellence.
