  Volleyball
Any state that has beaches has volleyball. On any sunny day at any Alabama beach, you're sure to find someone up for a game. However, Alabama's volleyball experience reaches much farther north than that. In fact, the University of North Alabama women play some pretty good volleyball themselves. The winners of the 2003 Division II NCAA National Championship, the UNA Lions have won fifteen Gulf Coast Conference Championships, been to the NCAA Elite Eight four times and advanced to the Final Four twice. The women at Alabama A&M have seen their share of success also, winning six straight SWAC titles from 2000–2005. In 2006, Alabama hosted its first professional beach volleyball tournament in Birmingham, Ala. The event, which aired on Fox Sports Net, drew over 150 top professionals. So on the pro, collegiate and even the amateur levels, Alabama can make for some great volleyball. |
