Rooster with Balanchine's Serenade

Rooster, the smash hit by famed British Choreographer Christopher Bruce, comes to Alabama for the first time. Set to eight hits by The Rolling Stones, including "Sympathy for the Devil," "Paint it Black," and "Ruby Tuesday," Rooster has been performed to overwhelming popular and critical acclaim worldwide. When asked what he thought of Rooster after the London premiere performance, the Stone's front man Mick Jagger responded, "I love it! It was great. I was looking at them and thinking `that's a good move, I must nick that.'" Rounding out the evening will be George Balanchine's classic Serenade set to the sweeping score by Tchaikovsky. Serenade, now considered an acknowledged 20th-century classic, was Balanchine's first piece for his new American dancers. An incorporation of rehearsal events and a hint of the hardships and almost religious exaltation of a career in ballet, Serenade's beauty is its pure-dance patterns that both introduce new motifs and repeat with significant variations. No design is fixed while everything is in flux. This is one evening of ballet that truly presents something for everyone and is the perfect way to close a delightful season!
