University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts Upcoming Concerts [Mobile] [Aug 27, 2010-May 31, 2011]

University of Mobile Piano Ensemble, Nov. 2, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in Moorer Auditorium, Martin Hall on the UMobile campus. Free admission. The UMobile Piano Ensemble concert features Center for Performing Arts faculty and students performing simultaneously on multiple pianos, in addition to individual performances in a variety of musical styles.
University of Mobile Christmas Spectacular!, Nov. 17, 18 and 19, 2010, at 6:45 p.m. at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, 3661 Dauphin St., Mobile, Ala., 36608. This is a ticketed event with free tickets in order to assure seating at this popular concert. Free tickets are available at the University of Mobile or Dauphin Way Baptist. Call 251-442-2420 for ticket information. This extravaganza of Christmas music in a variety of styles has become a favorite of the Mobile community, with more than 5,000 people enjoying the sights and sounds of Christmas during two performances. This year the university adds a third performance to accommodate the standing-room-only crowds. The event marks the start of the Christmas season and features more than 250 students and faculty in the University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts.
University of Mobile Honor Band concert, Feb. 26, 2011, at 1 p.m. on the UMobile campus, location TBA. Free admission. The concert is the concluding event of a three-day Honor Band camp featuring outstanding high school students from private schools and academies throughout the South who are nominated by their high school band directors. Daniel Wooten, director of bands at Niceville High School in Niceville, Fla., will serve as clinician. His bands have performed at the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Fiesta Bowl Parade, and Carnegie Hall. A
University of Mobile Symphony Orchestra and A Cappella Choir, March 1, 2011, 7:30 p.m., Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 2 South Claiborne St., Mobile, Ala. 36602. Free admission. Students in the university’s Symphony Orchestra are joined by guest musicians from the Mobile Symphony to perform sacred music in this annual concert, which also features the outstanding student voices of the university’s A Cappella Choir.

“Saviour,” a modern oratorio presented by the University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts, April 19 at 7 p.m. at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, 3661 Dauphin St., Mobile, Ala., 36608. Free admission. Saviour is a 60-minute musical composition for voices and orchestra and tells the sacred story of God’s passion for His people. The concert features the 200-member University Singers and the UMobile Symphony Orchestra.
Center for Performing Arts Spring Finale, May 1, 2011, 6 p.m., First Baptist North Mobile, 1251 Industrial Pkwy., Saraland, Ala. 36571. Free Admission. The CPA Finale is the final concert featuring all ensembles in the University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts. A variety of musical styles are presented in a worship event. Donations are requested during the concert to support ministries locally and internationally. Proceeds from previous concerts have helped purchase a van for Light of the Village ministry locally and for Haiti relief efforts internationally.
