Cycling - Road Route - Anniston - White’s Gap Ride

The route begins in Anniston at the Golden Springs Shopping Center at the corner of Golden Springs Road and Choccolocco Road. You can enjoy gourmet coffee and a pastry at the Java Bleu Coffeehouse, 256-240-7266, before departing on this locally popular ride. This is a lollipop-shaped route that takes in two climbs at the far end of the loop.

Skill Level:
Intermediate This loop requires some level of navigation on city side streets, plus some riding on roads that may see heavy traffic during rush-hour periods (7-8 a.m., 3:30-5:30 p.m.). There are two moderate climbs at the midway point of this ride. The descent of the second climb on Cottaquilla road is curvy and requires some skill and care to negotiate successfully. 
Route Legs:
  • Right at first major light east of town.
  • Follow Dearmanville as it turns hard left, then right to cross rail tracks.
  • Sharp left after tracks at gift shop.
  • Dearmanville crosses tracks again. Keep to right as road changes to Old Choccolocco.
  • Old Choccolocco Rd. crosses tracks again and ends on Choccolocco Road.
  • Pass Exxon station on right. Choccolocco Rd. ends on Hwy. 9.
  • Immediate right onto White Plains road.
  • Right at the greenhouses.
  • Follow the road as it curves left and goes uphill.
  • Left at Rabbittown Store.
  • Cross Hwy 9. Road changes to Whites Gap. Begin a mild 1+ mile climb. Fast decent. Left at stop sign. (Whites Gap Baptist Church.)
  • Begin 1.5-mile steep-ish climb. Fast and curvy descent. Be careful!
  • Cross Hwy 9. (Greenhouses, again.)
  • Immediate right back onto White Plains Road.
  • Follow White Plains parallel to Hwy 9. Road ends at Hwy 9. Right onto Choccolocco.
  • Follow Choccolocco all the way back to Golden Springs. (Option: Return reverse of outbound loop on Old Choccolocco Road.
