Lakeshore Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 organization that promotes independence for persons with physically disabling conditions and opportunities to pursue active, healthy lifestyles. Lakeshore Foundation offers a wide range of fitness, recreation, athletic and education programs to children and adults who experience diagnostic conditions including spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, amputation, and visual impairment. The Foundation also serves persons who have been diagnosed with arthritis, diabetes, chronic pain, cardiac conditions, and many other related disorders. Equipped to Succeed Lakeshore Foundation is located on a 45-acre campus in Homewood, Alabama. In 2001, due to growing community need, Lakeshore Foundation opened one of the nation's premiere fitness, recreation and education facilities for persons with physically disabling conditions. A highly trained and experienced staff of more than 80 full and part-time employees provide programs in this state of the art facility which includes an aquatics center with two pools, a fieldhouse with three hardwood courts and a 200-meter track, a ten lane marksmanship range; 6,000 square foot fitness center and The Fred Sington Community Room. In addition to these amenities, the Lakeshore Foundation campus is home to an outdoor tennis facility with eight championship lighted hard courts, the Birmingham office of the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS), the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Alabama Chapter and the HealthSouth Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital. Membership Membership opportunities are available for individuals, couples, families, seniors and youth with physically disabling conditions. Volunteer Opportunities Many local residents support their community through volunteering at Lakeshore Foundation. There are opportunities to volunteer throughout the year at special events and ongoing programs. No experience is necessary. Community Support Those who have given so generously of their time, talent and resources have made possible the remarkable growth of Lakeshore Foundation over the last 15 years. In addition to major individual and corporate giving, the Foundation is supported through special event fundraisers, sponsorships, in-kind donations, commemorative gifts, grants, individual contributions and planned gifts. Programs Lakeshore Foundation offers more than 60 ongoing activities and classes each week for children and adults that cover four major program areas: aquatics, fitness, competitive athletics and general recreation. The Foundation is also home to some of the world's most prestigious wheelchair sports events.

Directions:
Located on a 45-acre campus in Homewood. I-65 North Take Exit 255 (Lakeshore Drive). Distance from here is approx. 2.4 miles. From the exit, take a right at the red light. Stay on Lakeshore Drive. You will drive through six red lights. At the seventh red light you will see a stone sign for Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital and Lakeshore Foundation on the left. Take a left here onto Old Montgomery Highway. You will see another stone sign on the left (approx. .2 of a mile). Take a left into campus. Once on campus, take a right at the first stop sign. Drive past the Hospital. Follow this path up the hill and around the curve to the Lakeshore Foundation office building: there is parking available in front of the building. I-65 South Take Exit 255 (Lakeshore Drive). Distance from here is approx. 2.5 miles. From the exit, take a left at the red light. Stay on Lakeshore Drive through seven red lights. At the eighth red light, you will see a stone sign for Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital and Lakeshore Foundation on the left. Take a left here onto Old Montgomery Highway. You will see another stone sign on the left (approx. .2 of a mile). Take a left into campus. Once on campus, take a right at the first stop sign. Drive past the Hospital. Follow this path up the hill and around the curve to the Lakeshore Foundation office building: there is parking available in front of the building.
