Blackoak Creek

Blackoak is an elusive paddling prize for the advanced boater. It is a relatively large Town Creek tributary, but it is not easily caught with sufficient water. If you do time it right, it is a very sweet creek indeed. Most rapids are III or III+, but there are enough relatively easy class IVs to get your attention. The key to Blackoak is recent rain. This can happen any time of year, but generally winter and spring rain events are your only realistic hope. 1-2" on the put-in gage is a decent minimum while 6-8" is ideal. Once Blackoak hits 12" and beyond, the water gets pushy.
